Be sure to know your route and let others know your plan before heading out on the water or trails

Police are urging travelers to know your route and let people know where you’re going.  West Parry Sound OPP was called around 11:00pm Wednesday night after a group of canoeists failed to make it to their camp site on Massasauga Provincial Park in The Archipelago Township.  Officers with the Marine Unit searched the area with the assistance of the South Georgian Bay OPP Marine Unit, OPP Aviation Services and the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre Hercules helicopter.  Just before 9:30am, an OPP helicopter found the canoeists, but they didn’t think anything was wrong as they were under the impression that they were to make base camp the following day.  Police remind anyone heading out on an outdoor trip to always tell someone where you will be going and when you are expected home, file a Float Plan with local authorities such as a Park Warden and follow it, and carry a cell phone, first aid kit and a radio.
