The Town of Parry Sound will be spending more than $686,000 to replace the leaky roofing system on the Tony Angello Water Treatment Plant.
According to staff, water intrusion was discovered in the plant last year. Staff also determined that the leaks were worse when the roof’s sprinkler system was pressurized and operational.
Engineers were hired to assess the situation and provide possible solutions. According to staff, while a plan has been developed, the extent of the water intrusion along the back wall won’t be known until the project starts as the plant is built into a rock cut.
“We have to wait and see what we find first, and then we will go from there,” said Director of Public Works, Mike Kearns.
At a July 21 meeting, council approved a $686,000 budget and gave staff the ability to approve provincial items as needed.
The project will be funded through the 2026 capital budget, and any additional funds will be pulled from reserves.
According to staff, the intention is to replace the roof, restore the green space and maintain the overall look. Parks staff will remove plants and shrubs. They will be cared for and replanted post roof replacement.
