Two drivers charged with stunt driving on Highway 69

The West Parry Sound OPP laid two stunt driving charges within minutes of each other after catching two vehicles travelling at excessive speeds on Highway 69.

According to police, officers on patrol stopped a vehicle travelling 151 km/h on a posted 110 km/h zone shortly after 2 p.m. on Jan. 25. An investigation revealed that the vehicle was uninsured.

As a result, a 20-year-old from Sudbury was charged with stunt driving, an obstructed plate and driving without a permit. The passenger and owner of the vehicle charged with operation without insurance.

Minutes later, officers stopped another vehicle travelling 168 km/h in the same 110 km/h zone on Highway 69 near Henvey Inlet after the vehicle passed the initial traffic stop and came close to an officer outside of the stopped vehicle.

As a result, a 19-year-old from Sudbury is facing a handful of charges, including stunt driving, careless driving and failing to slow down or move over for an emergency vehicle.

Police said both drivers were issued 30-day license suspensions, and both vehicles were towed and impounded for 14 days.

Both accused are slated to appear in court in Parry Sound on March 17.
