Parry Sound-Muskoka MPP Graydon Smith is urging the province’s education minister to appoint a supervisor to take control of the Near North District School Board.
In a statement, Smith said the Near North Board’s ongoing mismanagement is the kind of scenario that prompted the need for Bill 33 – which among others, expands ministerial powers and allows Paul Calandra, the Minister of Education, to place school board under provincial supervision.
That bill received royal assent on Nov. 21.
“The Near North District School Board has become increasingly dysfunctional and appears unable to effectively manage its responsibilities. Its continued inability to follow directives from the Ministry of Education, along with its lack of effort to address the legitimate concerns of parents and students in Parry Sound, is deeply troubling,” stated Smith.
He said it’s important that those responsible for the current situation in Parry Sound to be held accountable, including removal front heir roles where appropriate and justified.
“I will continue to stand with, and advocate for, the parents, students, and teachers across West Parry Sound who have been affected by the NNDSB’s repeated failures,” he concluded.
