Compass Greenfield Development is proposing to develop a Battery Energy Storage System in the Municipality of McDougall.
According to the proposal, the system would be located at the intersection of Highway 400 and Avro Road and would provide up to 18 mega-watts of energy storage.
Officials behind the proposed development say Ontario is entering a period of emerging electricity system needs, and demand is forecast to increase 75% between 2025 and 2050. In order to meet these needs, the province’s Independent Electrical System Operator has put out and long-term request for proposals to secure approximately 1,600 MW of capacity through four separate procurements with commercial operation targets starting from 2030.
Facilities that successfully demonstrate their capabilities will be contracted by the first quarter of 2026, with operations starting on or before 2030.
The developer is hoping to submit the Parry Sound project in the second round of procurements.
An information session on the proposed development will take place Wednesday from 6:30 to 8:30 at Nobel Community Hall.
