Seguin Township to re-consider short-term rental licensing bylaw

A short-term rental licensing bylaw is back on the table in Seguin Township.

Council approved a motion to reconsider the bylaw at a meeting on August 5.

The motion was presented following an Ontario Superior Court decision to dismiss a legal challenge filed against Tiny Township’s Short-Term Rental Accommodation licensing bylaw in June. After reviewing the court’s decision, Seguin Coun. Greg Getty tabled the motion to reconsider, as well as a draft resolution on the licensing of short-term rentals.

The draft document suggests a maximum of 300 licenses, a cap of 92 rental days per calendar year, and a six day minimum for rentals, among other things. It also ask for a review of the cost and staffing required to administer a licensing program.

At councils request, staff will review the matter and report back at a future meeting.
