Parry Sound man facing weapons charge following incident on July 31

A 31-year-old Parry Sound man is facing a weapons charge following an incident near the downtown on July 31.

That’s according to West Parry Sound OPP, who say officers responded to a call near James Street of an individual shouting and walking around with a knife.

A section of downtown Parry Sound was advised to shelter-in-place around 3 p.m., while police searched for the suspect. This order was lifted about 10 minutes later.

Local OPP, with the assistance of the OPP Emergency Response Team, Canine Unit, aviation unit, and police drones, were able to locate and arrest the man.

The 31-year-old has been charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and for failing to comply with a release order.

He remains in custody and is slated to appear in court on Aug. 6.
