Site work on West Parry Sound Recreation and Cultural Centre project begins

Early site work at 44 Joseph Street, the future home of the West Parry Sound Recreation and Cultural Centre, has started.

According to project manager Andy Gordon, tree and vegetation removal has been completed by Hall Construction, and the removal of soil is expected to begin April 12.

Gordon told the board at an April 10 meeting that 16 contracts have been awarded at a value of $15.5 million, and 12 tenders have yet to close.

He added that the project is still on track to be within its $36.3 million budget.

The site plan application and building permits are currently under review. Once approved, building construction will begin.

According to Gordon, the plan is to have the building finished by the winter of 2026.
