Salvation Army’s Children Wish Radiothon hits the air Thursday and Friday

Thursday and Friday (Dec. 7-8) marks Moose FM’s annual Radiothon in support of the Salvation Army.

Each year Moose FM sets aside two days to allow residents and businesses to donate what they can to ensure local families and children have a great Christmas and the Salvation Army can continue its year-round community work.

Major Debbie Allen, Church Pastor, says the radiothon  raises awareness of how the nonprofit helps people and doubles as a major component of the Salvation Army’s fundraising.

“What we raise at Christmas is basically what funds our year-round programming in addition to supporting the Christmas hampers and toy program,” she says.

Listeners are asked to give what they can, and local businesses are encouraged to donate and challenge other like businesses.

Allen says the overall goal this year is $150,000 out of all the Salvation Army’s fundraising efforts.

“That provides much needed money to meet our basic expenses, like rent and utilities and to pay for our one employee. As well as all the other things that go along with being able to provide the services we do for everybody who needs us,” she says.

Allen says the goal for the Kettles Campaign is $40,000, about the same size as the goal for the Radiothon, which brings the organization to just over half of the overall goal for funds needed to facilitate their programming throughout the year.

Allen says as of Friday, the group was able to raise about 25% of their goal. Last year’s two-day radiothon raised $29,418.

Those wishing to donate can call 705-746-53 91, phones will be answered at the Salvation Army from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (Donations from 6:00 a.m. to 7 can be called into the station at 705-746-4291.)
