Three Magnetawan FN residents arrested in multi-unit investigation

Three Magnetawan First Nation residents are facing charges after an investigation involving eight police units. 

OPP says officers executed two search warrants on Wednesday (June 21), one at a business on Great North Road in Parry Sound and one at a residence on Village Road on Magnetawan First Nation. 

Police say the joint effort included members of the Provincial Joint Forces Guns & Gangs Enforcement Team of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit, Northeast Region Community Street Crimes Unit, Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau, Emergency Response Team, Canine Unit, Provincial Liaison Team, the Anishinabek Police Service and the OPP’s West Parry Sound Detachment. 

According to police, officers seized two firearms and ammunition during the search and arrested three people.

As a result of the investigation, OPP says two men, a 45-year-old and a 22-year-old along with a 42-year-old woman, all from Magnetawan First Nation, face two charges each, one for unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm and one for breach of firearms regulation. 

Further, the 45 and 42year-old face an added three charges all related to firearm possession. 

All three accused have a court in Parry Sound on July 20.
