Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry issues flood watch

A flood watch has been issued by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) for the Districts of Muskoka, Parry Sound, and the County of Haliburton.

Officials with the MNRF say runoff to local lakes and rivers continues and water levels and river flows are expected to remain high or rise slightly over the next few days.

The watch is in effect until Friday April 21st.

Officials remind residents that no ice is safe ice with ice conditions on local lakes having deteriorated with warmer temperatures and changing water levels and flows.

As well, they say banks and shorelines near bodies of water are likely extremely slippery and unstable. They advise caution around any body of water and say to keep a close eye on children and pets.

MNRF officials also advise extreme caution when using forest access roads for outdoor activities as they may become seasonally inundated with water, are prone to washouts and may become impassible due to localized flooding.

Residents are reminded to keep a close watch on conditions and regularly check for updated messages.
