Parry Sound Mayor on provincial Infrastructure funding and where its going

The Town of Parry Sound’s Mayor says they are pleased by the town’s cut of the provincial government’s infrastructure funding.

Earlier this week Ontario announced a $200 million investment in Local Infrastructure funding, $746,185 of which was going to Parry Sound.

As for where the money might go, Mayor James McGarvey said there is a long list of things the town needs but said one issue comes to mind.

“We’ve had a lot of interest in the area going up from the salt docks and the condos like sidewalks and that sort of thing put in that particular area, but it would be nice to have that done once the condos are actually built,” McGarvey said.

He says this would have to wait a bit otherwise the rushing in of traffic, pedestrians and construction would cause unnecessary jams.

As for how soon residents can see the results of these infrastructure funds in town, the mayor says times may vary.

He says; “If it’s road surfacing in some particular areas that could probably be done this summer but if it’s going to be something that needs to be engineered to fix up a piece of infrastructure that we have under the ground, that could be into the fall or next year”.

McGarvey says it will depend on what the money is being spent on and the time needed for the proposals to be carried in council, go through tender as well as engineering time if needed.
