Carling reduces 2020 taxes

CARLING, ON-Following its last council meeting, the Township of Carling has decided to reduce its 2020 taxes and push back due dates.

On June 9th, the Carling Council passed a by-law to reduce this year’s taxes by 3.5 percent from the approved budget.

This change comes after the previously approved residential tax increase of 5.2 percent over the previous year that was passed on March 10th.

The Township said that recognizing the impact that COVID-19 has had on the economy and the potential difficulties this may have created for some ratepayers, council decided to cut $234,487 from the 2020 municipal budget.

Residents can now only expect to see a 1.7 percent increase over the 2019 residential tax rate.

To give residents more time to plan, tax due dates have also been pushed back to August 27th and October 27th, with tax bills being processed and mailed out to property owners the week on July 20th.

Any property owners who are experiencing difficulties can contact the Township Treasury Department at 705-342-5856 to discuss options available regarding property taxes.

If you have any questions, you can email the Township at [email protected].
