MNRF reports a forest fire near Nine Mile Lake

UPDATE: The fire has been confirmed on the shore of Upper Marsh Lake in McDougall. It is smouldering, and fire crews are on scene. There are no issues or concerns.

MCDOUGALL, ON – A fire has broken out a short distance from Nine Mile Lake.

Fire Chief Brian Leduc said in a press release that the Ministry of Natural Resources discovered a fire burning about one kilometre west of the lake. Leduc says it’s about halfway up the lake.

Leduc says the fire is in the crown protection area and the MNRF has dispatched a heli-attack crew, a Bird Dog plane, and two Twin Otter water bombers.

According to Leduc, the vehicles and firefighters should be over the area around now.

He says that more information is expected in.
