This week, Oct. 20 to 24, is School Bus Safety Week.
Officials say the week is a time to remind everyone – drivers, parents, students and communities – of the importance of school bus safety. Whether it’s stopping for flashing red lights, slowing down in school zones, or reinforcing safe behaviour when getting on and off the bus.
The West Parry Sound OPP Const. Brandon Charlebois said failing to stop for a school bus comes with a hefty consequences.
“Whether you are approaching a school bus or meeting a school bus, if the lights are on and the stop arm is out and you pass the bus when that is happening. It is a $490 fine and six demerit points,” said Charlebois.
