Exchange students in need of host families in Parry Sound

Three foreign exchange students are in need of host families in town.

That’s according to Scott Baird of YES Canada, who says five exchange students from France, Australia, Switzerland and China will be coming to Parry Sound this fall.

Baird says the students will be attending Parry Sound High School, and are looking to join a local family and immerse themselves in the community.

“It is an opportunity to connect with a different culture in your own home,” he said. “This can be a life changing experience for the students, but it is also an experience for the host family.”

According to Baird, the students stays are a range of lengths, from as short as three months, to the entire 10 month school year.

While they are here, he said the goal is to have them become another member of the family. The host families is asked to include them in meals, day-to-day activities and other aspects of life.

“This is also a great way to see your own community in a new light. When you welcome someone new and introduce them to your area you start to explore it in way you might not have done before,” said Baird. “It is a nice way to see your own community differently, as well.”

Baird says anyone interested in becoming a host families should reach out right away, as the students are arriving in town at the end of August.
