2023 Santa Claus Parade kicks off 4:30 on Saturday

Rocking around the Christmas Tree is the theme for this year’s Santa Claus Parade.

Jayme Young, Community Recreation Coordinator, says there are just under 50 floats in the parade this year taking place on Saturday, Nov 25.

“We are really looking forward to seeing what everybody has come up with. We’ve got the fire departments from quite a few of our surrounding communities including the Town of Parry Sound, Seguin, McDougall, and Wasauksing First Nation. So there will be quite a few fire trucks in the parade. But we also have the Georgian jumpers joining us and the Salvation Army church,” she says.

Young says the plan is to start moving officially at 4:30 sharp, staging floats up and down Gibson St. starting at 3 PM, so from 3 till 4:30 Gibson St. will be a one-way street on Saturday.

“And then at 4:30 sharp will be hitting the road headed down Isabella’s to Church St. and then Church to Rosetta, Rosetta up James following all the way down to Bay St and ending at the Stockey Centre,” she says.

Young says this year is the town’s first year going with a theme, adding its going to be a nice little way to tie the whole parade together.

Also new this year, Young says, is the implementation of a no horns or air horns rule.

“That’s just to help those spectators that really want to enjoy the parade, not to have to worry about it hurting anybody’s ears or being too loud,” she says.

Young says this year most of the floats are handing out some things, so come prepared to get some candy or some little giveaways.

She says the Parry Sound EMS team is going to have their ambulance and they’re going to be accepting toys for their annual toy drive.

In addition, Young says Canada Post employees will be out collecting letters for Santa, and then Santa will be wrapping up the parade.
