Moviemakers back in Parry Sound for ‘Wickensburg’ sequel

Movie crews are back in town again this year working on the second installation to the Parry Sound-filmed Wickensburg.

Michael Kearns, Parry Sound’s Director of Public Works, says the new movie is called Return to Wickensburg.

“They have begun shooting. They’ve been shooting at some private residence locations in town. [on Tuesday] I believe they were shooting at Wabauno Beach and they have a couple of other locations and shoots scheduled on municipal property,” he says.

Kearns says the Town is excited to see them back, adding there are already some indications that their film budget is being well spent in town.

“They’ve been very good at working with us. Obviously, the beach is a very popular location in August, so we worked with them to ensure parking wasn’t going to become a major issue and I have to say that they’ve been very good at working with us,” he says

Both the original movie and the sequel are the works of Ontario based Producer and Director, Richard Boddington, with the sequel marking Boddington’s seventh feature film.

The first movie, which premiered on May 16, centered around a recently widowed mother and her 13-year-old son, who move to a new small town, discover it has a dark secret, and race against time to save the town of Wickensburg.
