NNDSB awards mega school’s tender to Van Horne Construction

Parry Sound’s new JK-12 mega school will be built by Van Horne Construction Ltd.

In a meeting on Tuesday (June 27), officials with the Near North District School Board announced the tender was awarded for work on the school site.

According to the board, a request for proposal was posted in February with a closing date of March 30.

The Parry Sound Building Committee then met on June 22 to approve a motion to recommend Van Horne Construction be awarded the tender.

Board Chair Erika Lougheed says the new school will bring a state-of-the-art learning facility to students in Parry Sound and area.

Officials say the school will have 815 student spaces, 49 childcare spaces, one EarlyON room to support local families and is set to open its doors in September 2025.

The Ministry of Education first approved the new build in Parry Sound in 2015, then the school board moved ahead with it and picked its address in 2019.
