Heads up on local hockey

Lots of hockey this weekend for the Parry Sound Shamrocks.

This weekend had the Optimist Club Novices and Rotary Club Atom hosting their annual Bobby Orr Hall of Fame tournament.  The Novice team played some tough competition and was unable to advance to the semifinals.  The Atoms finished the round robin 2-1 and played East Nipissing in the semifinals who they beat 2-0.  The finals had them facing Ingersoll who hadn’t let in a goal all tournament and despite scoring twice, it wasn’t enough as the home team finished as runners up.

On Friday night, the Fowler Construction peewees were in Elmvale where they gave up a three goal lead in the third period but battled hard to come away with a 6-6 tie.  Then on Saturday, the peewee team travelled to Huntsville where they got off to a rough start but played well in the second and third periods but fell 7-2.

Also on Saturday, the Ritchie Insurance Bantams hosted Haliburton in Humphrey and ended with a 5-1 loss.  The team rebounded on Sunday as they played South Muskoka and shut them out 2-0.

The Brokerlink Midgets were in Penetang Sunday night were they played to a 2-2 tie.  Then last night, they were in Elmvale and managed another tie, 1-1.
