Local OPP units are continuing to push for snowmobile safety in Parry Sound. Ontario’s Snowmobile Safety Week kicks off on Saturday and the police say the only way to stop sledding fatalities is to take charge of your own safety.
A number of tips are being released as part of the safety week, including always being prepared. The OPP says snowmobilers have to expect the unexpected, which means carrying a tool kit, spare parts, flashlights, a survival kit, and a first aid kit. Ride slower at night, and wear bright colours.
Finally, be extra cautious on ice, as hypothermia or drowning from riding into open water or falling through the ice are serious risks.
