Portage Lake Road home burns to the ground

A home in Seguin Township was destroyed by a fire on Monday (March 9).

Members of the Seguin Fire Department were dispatched to a property on Portage Lake Road just after 4:40 a.m. after a 911 call was made by a person driving on Highway 400, who noticed a large orange glow in the area of Portage Lake Road.

According to Seguin Fire Chief Sean Carroll, 16 firefighters responded to the call, and were able to get the blaze under control by 6:30 a.m. Crews remained on scene to complete overhaul operations until approximately 11:30 a.m.

“The structure was a complete loss,” said Carroll. “The cause has been deemed undetermined by Seguin Fire staff due to the amount of damage to the property.”

The home was unoccupied at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported.
