The YMCA of Simcoe Muskoka has signed an agreement with the West Parry Sound Recreation and Cultural Centre Board to operate the Tamarack North Centre.
Officials say the multi-use facility, slated to open next spring, will be a vibrant community hub offering an array of health, fitness, cultural and aquatics programs.
Located at 44 Joseph Street, the facility will include a six-lane pool, therapy pool, indoor track, common rooms, fitness studio, and full sized gymnasium.
“After decades of grassroots efforts to bring a pool and recreation centre to our area, we are proud that our seven municipalities, two First Nations, provincial and federal government have collaborated to make this facility a realty,” said Dale Robinson, Board Chair and Mayor of the Municipality of McDougall. “This agreement with the YMCA Simcoe/Muskoka is an extension of this cooperative approach and an example of the incredible things than can happen when we team up with a shared focus. We are confident that the Y is an ideal partner to create programming and services that reflect our community.”
As part of the finalized operating agreement, the YMCA will gift the Board their vacant property on Smith Crescent. Proceeds from the Board’s sale of this property will then be directed towards supporting the Tamarack North Centre.
“We believe that the Tamarack North Centre will be a space where small, transformative moments happen each and every day, and make a lasting impact in the lives of those who spend time there. It is a great honour and privilege to operate this centre, and doing so is another step forward in our commitment to supporting the health and vitality of our community for years to come.”
