The West Parry Sound Health Centre is once again partnering with 103.3 Moose FM for a radiothon on July 24.
We will be on-air from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. raising awareness and funds for the WPSHC Foundation.
Foundation CEO Deborah Loosemore says they are in the midst of raising funds so they can overhaul the surgical department.
“Every year we pick a special project and this year our special project is quite a big one,” said Loosemore.
“We are doing a floor to ceiling makeover of our surgical suite, which includes three operating rooms, the scope room where you get colonoscopies, gastroscopies, and the medical devices reprocessing department, which is where all of the equipment and surgical instruments get cleaned and sterilized and ready for the next patient.”
Loosemore says the first phase of the project requires $1.1 million dollars, and they are about 88 per cent of the way there.
The second phase is $1.4 million dollars. According to Loosemore, it includes purchasing equipment to bring four services back to the local hospital.
“We have a urologist, ophthalmologist, hopefully a new orthopedic surgeon.. and we have also introduced a new breast cancer surgical treatment; all of which require very expensive equipment.”
The 12-hour radiothon fundraiser will include special programming, interviews with hospital staff, and more.
