Three families displaced by Railway Avenue fire still in need of help

The three families displaced by a fire at a Railway Avenue apartment building earlier this month are still in need of help.

That’s according to officials from the Rotary Club of West Parry Sound, who recently increased their fundraising goal to $15,000.

“These families — people who were already just getting by — have lost everything. They are now facing choices no one in our community should have to make,” said Rotarian Maria Ledesma, who is overseeing the online fundraiser.

“When the system falls short, it’s up to the people of Parry Sound to close the gap. And that’s exactly what we are asking for today.”

On July 8, the Rotary Club presented each family with $750 to help them get by.

As of July 16, the online fundraiser has raised more than $5,385 hundred dollars.
Funds raised will be used to help these families find a safe place to sleep, clean clothes, furniture and more.

“Please donate if you can — and just as importantly, share this fundraiser,” said Ledesma. “Your voice is powerful. Your kindness is real. And right now, it matters more than ever.”
