Water safety, rainfall bulletin in effect for region

Water levels will be higher this next week thanks to Friday’s “significant rainfall.”

That from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, which has issued a water safety bulletin for the Black, Burnt, Gull, Magnetawan, and Muskoka River watersheds.

Officials say the heavy downpours can cause flash-flooding, which could impact low-lying areas to various degrees. They add rain may mix with or transition to snow overnight, particularly over areas of higher terrain, and pool on roads.

The ministry also advises “extreme caution” around forest access roads, as washouts can easily make them impassible. Residents are also reminded to secure any vulnerable property in flood-prone areas.

The rain is expected to stop Saturday morning, but could mix with or transition to snow before then.
