Parry Sound enacts development charge deferral policy

Parry Sound council officially passed a development charge deferral policy at a meeting on April 2.

Town officials say the policy places an emphasis on encouraging high density development, in line with the town’s official plan.

Under the policy, projects considered high-density, like apartment buildings, row housing and stacked townhouses, would be eligible to have development charges deferred for up to two years.

Projects where development charges exceed 75 thousand dollars would also be eligible for a two-year deferral.

A development charge bylaw was absent from the municipality’s books for two decades before being adopted by council in July 2023.
