$2 million donation to support restoration of Rosseau Memorial Hall

A $2 million bequest from Robert (Bob) Foote will help support the restoration of Rosseau Memorial Hall.

Town officials said the gift comes at a pivotal time for the century-old building as restoration plans are currently underway.

In February, Seguin Township council adopted a vision for the future of the hall as proposed by heritage consultants. Their proposal was created based on the building’s most urgent needs and feedback from the community.

“Seguin Township is incredibly grateful for this generous bequest,” said Mayor Ann MacDiarmid. “These funds will help to ensure that this cherished historic asset is restored for our community today and for generations to come.”

Foote was born in Rosseau and attended Rosseau Public School. Although he moved to Toronto, he remained connected to his home village.

“Bob had a clear passion for Rosseau, in particular this building’s history and legacy,” said Douglas Grenkie, Foote’s cousin. “Bob often returned to Rosseau.”

Foote died in November of 2020. He was 93 years old.

The township will be hosting events throughout the summer to celebrate Rosseau Memorial Hall’s 100th anniversary, Foote’s donation, and the start of the revitalization project.
