Winter camping now an option at Killbear Provincial Park

For the second year in a row, winter camping is available at Killbear Provincial Park.

According to chief park naturalist Kenton Otterbein, the park had a dozen sites available for camping last winter as part of a pilot program. After a successful first year, 20 more sites were plowed out and made available this winter.

“Based on the amount of people that came last year we decided we were going to increase the number of sites we had this year. So, we have 32 sites. All of them were booked during the Family Day long weekend,” said Otterbein.

Killbear’s winter camping season runs from early January through to mid-March.

During that time, the park has 15-kilometres of trails available for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and hiking.

“The nice thing that you can always do at Killbear is come for a hike along our shoreline and enjoy the views over Georgian Bay,” he added.
