New fire truck arrives in Britt

The Britt and Area Fire Department took possession of a new pumper truck on Feb. 20.

According to Fire Chief Dave Marlin, the truck will replace their 31-year-old tanker which had started to break down. He says the newer model pumper, which will be located at Station 2 in Byng Inlet, will provide more space for equipment and allow the department to send more firefighters to the scene at once.

“The new truck comes with more space, more pump capacity, the same sized tank, and the ability to carry five passengers and a driver, instead of our current pick-up style chassis which only allows for two passengers.,” said Marlin.

The truck was previously being used in Haldimand County.

Local firefighters will spend the next month training with the new truck before it is put into full service in the spring.

“We are looking forward to it,” said Marlin. “We have had some new members join in the vicinity of Station 2, so this will enable them to jump on a fire truck and respond with us.”
