Discussions taking place locally on possibly moving PA Day to April 8

The upcoming solar eclipse on April 8 has some Ontario school boards moving a Professional Activity (PA) Day and discussions are taking place locally too.

NASA’s solar eclipse map shows the celestial event happening during what would be the commute home from school that day, between 3:15 pm and 3:25 pm in Ontario.

“The decision affects all four co-terminus school boards,” states the Near North District School Board. “There are discussions taking place and if the PA day is being modified due to the solar eclipse, all families will be advised and the news will be shared on social media.”

Several boards in Southern Ontario have moved PA Days to April 8 with staff citing the danger of looking directly at a solar eclipse and potential traffic-related safety concerns.
