OPP cautions against travel amid winter storm

The OPP is urging caution as a winter storm rolls through the region.

Constable Aaron Jeffrey says to prepare for hazardous conditions, as Environment Canada predicts up to 30 centimetres of snow in some parts of Cottage Country by Wednesday morning.

“The roads are definitely a little sloppy today with this incoming winter storm,” says Jeffrey. “The wet snow makes the conditions very slippery. We’ve been spoiled this winter with very little snow and good road conditions, but we’re definitely seeing a lot more snow coming this way over the next 24 hours.”

Jeffrey says to stay off the roads if possible, adding officers will be out on patrol to make sure everyone is safe.

“Drivers should definitely slow down with these road conditions, keep a greater following distance between them and the vehicle in front of them, and just be constantly aware of the changing conditions,” says Jeffrey.

Other tips from the OPP for those venturing out include keeping your vehicle full of fuel, carrying a winter survival kit with clothes, food, and other necessities, and keeping your windshield and windows free of snow and ice.
