September 30 marked by Parry Sound as National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

September 30 has been officially marked by Parry Sound as National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

The town council says the decision falls in line with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action.

In a motion carried unanimously on Tuesday, council followed suit with the Federal Government which declared September 30th, 2021, as the first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, also known as National Orange Shirt Day.

According to the federal government, “the day recognizes the tragic legacy of residential schools, the missing children, the families left behind and the survivors of these institutions”.
