35-year-old Burlington local facing charges after fatal side-by-side crash on Saturday

A 35-year-old is facing charges following a fatal single vehicle crash in Kearney over the weekend. 

Almaguin Highlands OPP says officers responded to the crash on Rain Lake Road around 5 PM on Saturday Sept 16. 

According to police, four occupants were in a side-by-side vehicle at the time of the accident.  

OPP says one person, a 39-year-old from Hamilton was airlifted to hospital where they were pronounced dead, and two people, a 40-year-old and 36-year-old from Hamilton, did not require medical attention.

As a result of further investigation, police say the driver, a 35-year-old from Burlington, was arrested and charged with operation causing death and operation while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration of 80 plus. 

OPP says the accused remained in custody until their court date the next day (Sunday Sept 17).  

According to the Almaguin Highlands detachment, officers were assisted by Parry Sound District Emergency Medical Service and the Kearney Fire Department with the OPP’s Traffic Incident Management Enforcement Team and Snow machine, All-terrain Vehicle, and Vessel Enforcement assisting with the investigation.
