Local Alzheimer Society recruiting board members

The Alzheimer Society of Muskoka is looking for board members.

Pamela Leeder, the Society’s Interim Executive Director, says they’re looking to fill at least two spots on its board of directors.

“We look for a wide breadth of people and skillsets,” says Leeder. “And we very much support diversity and inclusion, so we put the word out there to see who might be interested. Each skillset might support our organization in a different way.”

The not-for-profit provides resources and support to people living with dementia in Muskoka and Parry Sound.

According to Leeder, duties will include strategic planning, leadership direction, and helping to make decisions for the not-for-profit. She says it’s a way to give back to the community.

“We know that dementia is increasing in our community, and so our board really is valuable in making strategic plans and moving our organization forward,” says Leeder. “So we can meet those demands and how we as an organization support the individuals in our community to live well with dementia.”

Leeder says they’ll appoint the new directors at the organization’s annual general meeting on Sept. 21, so people should apply by early September. You can do that at the Society’s website.
