Firefighters with the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Britt Fire Department have mobilized to control a forest fire located within Magnetawan First nation.
Kyle Hayward, Communications Specialist with the Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services, says the fire has been labelled Parry Sound 3, meaning it’s the third forest fire in the Parry Sound District this summer.
Hayward says the fire was originally reported to be 0.4 hectares but then grew to about half a hectare. He says the fire is located some distance behind the Magnetawan Esso gas station.
“Two twin otters and a bird dog, so that’s our types of aircraft, responded this afternoon. They’re on their way back to Sudbury currently. The fire responded well to aerial fire suppression operations, and it has also been assigned to fire Ranger crews to do the residual controlling and outing of the fire,” Hayward says.
Hayward says there’s no concern for public safety. He says the fire was confirmed at 2:47 PM on Tuesday.
