McDougall Fire Department’s annual fireworks set for this weekend at Kinsmen Park

A local Fire department is marking this Victoria Day long weekend with some carefully planned fireworks.

McDougall Fire Chief Patrick Shoebottom says the department is bringing back their annual fireworks display at Kinsmen Park for the second year in a row after a pandemic-induced hiatus.

“We’re having our fireworks this Saturday evening starting at dusk. That’s between 8:45 and 9:00. And if it rains, we will push the date till Sunday evening at dusk. We will have fire trucks and crews on scene to mitigate any problems that could occur which will allow us to work in the high fire danger rating with the fireworks. Also, before the fireworks, the fire trucks will be there for the kids to come on. As well, Sparky may make an appearance,” he says.

Shoebottom says it’ll be a good weekend for everybody and a lot of fun for firefighters to interact with the community as well. With the region’s fire danger rating still high, he urges residents to be safe and keep campfires small.

“Campfires are only for cooking and warmth. If you have an alternative such as a propane fire table that would be ideal for this weekend,” Shoebottom says.
