Plan tackles local labour market challenges

All industries are facing critical shortages, it’s a job seekers market and employers are struggling more than ever before to not only hire people, but to get applicants.

Those are a few findings in the Labour Market Group’s 2023 Local Labour Market Plan for Nipissing and Parry Sound.

Officials say the purpose of the plan is to identify significant labour market issues and set a strategic direction with actions that address and help alleviate critical workforce development challenges.

Over a dozen next steps are included in the action plan, with officials working with various business, economic development and employment partners.

Some actions include developing a program where employers can access the resources of HR professionals, expanding the Ready Set Hired platform, generating new resources for high school guidance offices and more.

There’s also ongoing work to create awareness around local labour market information.
Officials say the plan also includes a comprehensive update of labour market information and analysis specific to the region, extensive consultation, interviews and focus groups with employers and other community stakeholders.

The plan is available on the Labour Market Group’s website.
