West Parry Sound area’s Fire Danger Rating Moderate for the weekend

The West Parry Sound area fire danger rating has been set to moderate.

Fire Coordinator Gord Harrison says the region’s fire chiefs decided to keep the moderate rating mainly because of how diverse the area is.

“There are areas where we still have lots of snow in the bush and so we’re comfortable staying at moderate until the end of the weekend. The other thing is we are looking at some pretty low winds for the entire weekend,” he says.

Harrison says sunshine and brisk winds have helped reduce the snow on the ground and in the forest and officials are beginning to look at the risk of forest fires.  He says normal burning regulations are in effect and as always, advises residents to check their own municipal burning regulations before having a fire.

Harrison says the area’s fire departments encourage people to get outdoors, and enjoy nature adding that campfires are a wonderful part of it. “As always just be safe with it and make sure that you keep them small. Don’t burn if its windy and make sure they are completely out when you are done,” he says.
