Nominations close for municipal elections

Nominations have closed for this year’s municipal elections.

It’s going to be a three-way race for mayor in Parry Sound. Incumbent Jamie McGarvey, Vanessa Backman ,and Eric Hansman are the three candidates as of 2 pm Friday, which was the deadline for anyone considering a run at public office.

Nine individuals are also vying for a Council position and four as possible school board trustees.

In the Township of Mckellar, it’s also going to be a three-way race with Ron Harrison, David Moore ,and Michel Richard vying for Mayor. Eight are also vying for a Council position along with two possible school board trustees.

In the Municipality of McDougall, Mike Barker and incumbent Dale Robinson are running for Mayor and seven people are going after four council seats.

As for Carling Township, Susan Murphy, Gary Bauer, and Elisabeth McWalter are in the race for Mayor, with nine vying for a position on Council and three candidates for School Board Trustees.

There won’t be a mayoral race in Seguin Township, with incumbent Ann MacDiarmid the only one running, as well as ten candidates for councilor.

In the Municipality of Whitestone, George Comrie will remain as Mayor, 8 individuals are running for Council as well as two for the Near North School Board and one for School Board Trustee, Conseil Scolaire Public Du Nord-Est.

Municipal elections are set for October 24th.
