Parry Sound’s new JK-12 Super School delayed to 2024

The opening for Parry Sound’s much anticipated JK to grade 12 “Super School” has been delayed by a year.

In an update to its Parry Sound JK-12 Build Community Feedback Report, the Near North District School Board says a revised project schedule is now projecting a September 2024 planned opening for the new school. Which, according to the board, also extends the expected timeframe for the project’s other milestones as well.

The reason for the delay, the board says, was in order to ensure that the JK-12 building design “fits within the parameters set by the Ministry”. To do so, the NNDSB paused progress on the working drawings and collaborated with the Ministry and its architects to review the floor plan and square footage of the design.

The board says the Ministry has green-lit the new designs and that +VG Architects, the firm picked to design the school, was asked to resume work on the building design and working drawings.

The updated report, posted Wednesday, April 20th on the NNDSB’s website, answers shareholders’ questions on timelines for construction work on the super school’s demolition stage.
