Charles W. Stockey Centre reaching out to community to help support Parry Sound Olympians

The Charles W. Stockey Centre for the Performing Arts and Bobby Orr Hall of Fame are organizing a congratulatory video for Parry Sound’s Olympians.

Mark Ideson, Megan Oldham, and Graham Ritchie are on their way to Beijing to compete. Oldham is a freestyle skier, Ritchie is a cross-country skier and Ideson is a curler who will take part in the Paralympics.

“We are asking the community for words of encouragement, well-wishes, a cheer or a simple best of luck card to go into a video that we are putting together,” reads a post made on the centre’s Facebook page. “It can be in written, photo, or video format. We will compile submissions into a video for each athlete and facilitate sending these well wishes.”

Officials ask you to send your addition to the video to Kelsey Norris, Marketing Coordinator, at [email protected] or by calling 705-746-4466, extension 201. The deadline is Feb. 2 at 4:30 PM.

“We are so excited and so proud,” Norris says. “It’s incredible.”

She adds they’ve already received some submissions, but hope to get more before the deadline.

“We’re from an area that’s really positive to sports and cultivating the dreams of the athletes in our area,” Norris boasts.

The Winter Olympics kick off on Feb., 4 with all athletes set to arrive in Beijing over the coming days.
