The North Bay Parry Sound District is one of a few regions in Ontario that are keeping COVID-19 relatively under control.
The region’s Medical Officer of Health Dr. Jim Chirico gave the news this morning with an attached warning,
“As of April 19th, our district has the lowest cumulative rate of COVID-19 cases per 100,000 population in Ontario. I want to acknowledge the continued efforts from everyone in the district, however, know that now is not the time to let our guard down, we have to be vigilant,” Chirico said.
Dr. Chirico said the cases that are being reported in the district are within and between households.
He urged people to always keep trips outside the home to essential trips only, such as going to work, getting groceries, attending a medical appointment and being vaccinated.
Chirico said the reason we are doing well, has to with our demographic, population density, and differences in workplace sectors.
Most importantly, however, he believes that residents are following public health measures and that’s the driving force in the fight against COVID-19.
