The Town of Parry Sound tweeted Tuesday that the Main Fitness Trail is and remains open.
Dave Thompson, Director of Development & Protective Services said land crossing the Rabbit Canyon trail is privately owned and so the landowner did put up signs of no-trespassing.
However, the publicly-owned Main Rotary and The Algonquin Regiment Fitness Trail remain open.
Approximately 75 ft of the lower parallel trail is on private property, and the rest of that trail is on municipal lands.
By law, the landowner does have the right to post and limit access onto the portion of the trail that crosses their lands.
The Town said several discussions with the landowner’s representative did not result in a mutually beneficial arrangement.
Officials added that it remains open to further discussions on a solution that protects the public’s best interests.
