Parry Sound Mayor reminding residents to Stay off the Ice

As the weather starts heating and Spring sets in the “Stay of the Ice Season” officially kicks off.

Parry Sound Mayor Jamie McGarvey told MyParrySoundNow in a call on Friday that ice safety is paramount at the moment because it’s becoming very dangerous.

McGarvey said while driving to the town Dock, he had noticed a number of people that still have ice huts out.

“It becomes very tenuous this time of year with water flows coming in from rivers and the increased volume of water and yeah conditions can change very quickly,” He said. “So the message is Stay Off the Ice,”

McGarvey added that going on the ice this time of year not only puts yourself in peril but if something goes drastically wrong, you’re also putting the rescue team’s lives in danger.

He added that ice breakers will be here sooner rather than later which will just break the ice up more, so don’t take the chance.
