Survey results for Parry Sound Area Municipal Airport released

Results of the survey conducted for the runway project at Parry Sound Area’s Municipal Airport were released this week.

Officials stated they were “amazed to see they were flooded” with wonderful comments.

The public form, according to Seguin Township officials, brought up some important questions and a few misguided facts that were addressed in the results report.

Here are a few highlights from the report;

  • The Airport is a vital community asset with 40% of its fuel revenue derived from Essential Services that all residents benefit from.
  • All businesses interested in moving, expanding or starting up at the Airport are required to present a business plan for Airport Commission review and approval.
  • The Airport has over 80 employees working out of the 14 various businesses on the field with 7 being directly employed with the Airport.
  • An economic analysis, conducted by Explorer Solutions and completed in July 2018, shows that the Airport creates an $18.7 million positive impact to the economy annually.
  • The proposed shift in runway heading was twofold.
    1. To be environmentally responsible avoiding the wetlands to the north and
    2. To make a small but positive move towards the prevailing wind.
  • New energy-efficient LED runway lighting will be installed during this project.
  • The safety concerns for these aircraft are the short length and the constricted width of the runway; both of which are being addressed in the new proposed runway.

Should you require further information, you are asked to call Neil Pirie, Airport Manager at 705-378-2897.
