Explosion at Tim Horton’s Memorial Camp north of Parry Sound levels dormitory, no injuries

Around 7:30 AM on Wednesday, the McDougall Fire Department received a call about a building explosion at the Tim Horton’s Memorial Camp on Lorimer Lake Road.

The explosion was reported to have levelled a dormitory in the McDougall camp, north of Parry Sound.

In a call with My Parry Sound Now, McDougall’s Fire Chief Brian LeDuc said when responders arrived on the scene, the remnants of the building and everything around it was still on fire.

He said the incident was a three-alarm call, leading him to activate mutual aid from McKellar Township Fire Department to send water tankers and requested a suppression company from Parry Sound’s Fire Department.

LeDuc said Ontario Fire Marshall’s Office investigators and engineers arrived on the scene Wednesday afternoon and will be on the scene again Thursday to conduct their investigation.

He said the cause of the explosion is still being looked into, but it was confirmed that it was a large explosion that instigated the incident.

LeDuc said the 8,000 to 9,000 square foot building was about 70 percent collapsed, with the fire happening in the remnants still standing.
