Parry Sound Business-owners planning Thursday protest against lockdown extension

A local Parry Sound business owner is planning a protest on Thursday against the lockdown in the Parry Sound area.

Owner of Near North Games on James Street, Mary-Ellen Swan told My Parry Sound Now what pushed her to pull this together.

“Well, we already had business owners light up their (open) signs for two days, not a lot happened with that. So we wanted to continue Light Up Parry Sound, and we are hoping that business owners will be out front of their stores and the community will come out and help support us in saying that we cannot stay locked down any longer.” She said.

Swan said this Thursday, between 7 and 7:30 PM she will be putting out glow sticks and LED candles for people to pick up and join in the socially distanced demonstration.

“We just can’t stay closed any longer and still survive. The businesses are on edge. We are at a point now where if they close us down for longer, a lot of us won’t make it!”

Swan said she wants to make a stand before the local health unit makes a decision this Friday on whether or not the area will stay in lockdown for another two weeks.

The event’s Facebook page stresses that all participants must stay masked and socially distanced, and not gather in groups even if family.
