Eastern Georgian Bay conservation efforts getting a $1.95-million boost

The federal government is investing just under $2-million in conservation efforts throughout Eastern Georgian Bay.

Jonathan Wilkinson, Canada’s Environment Minister, says the funding will go to a project led by the Georgian Bay Biosphere Mnidoo Gamii with co-applicants Shawanaga First Nation, Magnetawan First Nation, and the Georgian Bay Land Trust.

He says $1.95-million will be provided over four years through the Community-nominated Priority Places initiative under the Canada Nature Fund.

Wilkinson says the focus will be on conserving habitats vital to the survival of 46 Canadian species at risk such as the massasauga and the midland painted turtle.
