PARRY SOUND, ON-The Town of Parry Sound has been allocated over $300,000 to support communities suffering from the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Ontario Government, in partnership with the Federal Government, is providing much-needed assistance to Ontario’s 444 municipalities, including the communities in Parry Sound and Muskoka.
This funding will assist in addressing municipal operating pressures that have arisen from the pandemic, as part of the first round of emergency funds that are coming from the Safe Restart Agreement.
This allocation that Parry Sound is receiving is part of a larger $4 billion the Ontario Government secured to give the municipalities the flexibility they need to protect the health and well-being of their communities while continuing to deliver critical public services.
Such communities that will be receiving part of this funding include Armour, Bracebridge, Burk’s Falls, Carling, Georgian Bay, Gravenhurst, Huntsville, Lake of Bays, Magnetawan, McDougall, Parry Sound, and Whitestone, as well as others.
“I am very happy to see the municipalities of Parry Sound – Muskoka receiving this much-needed support,” said MPP Norm Miller. “In total, the riding received $9,787,213, which will help ease some of the financial burdens our municipalities face as a result of the pandemic. The impact of COVID-19 has been felt across our country and the province. Government partnerships are imperative to ensure the burdens felt by our constituents are mitigated.”
In addition to this funding, an additional allocation will be made to local transit systems to help ease some of the pressure they have been experiencing since the pandemic started.
Miller said the government is committed to working in partnership with municipalities to ensure they can emerge stronger than ever and help lead Ontario’s economic recovery.
